6 Starting Steps to a Low Fat Diet
So finally you decided to start eating healthy, but all the low fat diets you have researched mention eating just soup, or just vegetables, or whatever you relate with "non-delicious" food?. Well, let me tell you there is still hope. There are always ways to eat healthy without sacrificing your taste!
The first thing to do is Set Goals; but do not set a goal so high that you are not going to be able to do it. Just set a small goal, let's say 2 pounds a week, or 1 pound a week. Just set something you can accomplish.
A normal rate of weigh loss is about 2 to 3 pounds a week. If you starve yourself to lose more than that your body will go into "conservation mode". That means your body will "think" is not going to get food in a long time, so it will conserve all the fat it can, making more difficult for you to lose weight.
So, let look at 6 things you can do as you being your low fat diet.
1) Don't miss breakfast. Every diet will tell you this. You need to have a good, well balanced breakfast, so you won't overeat at lunch or dinner, and you will have energy in those first hours of your day. A balanced breakfast must include: cereal (whole-grain) , fat free or low fat milk, and fruit or yogurt. This combination will maintain your blood sugar levels stable for a few hours until your lunch time.
2) Drink water (a lot). Everybody knows we should drink more water. It may be 8 or 10 glasses (remember there is water in food too), or 4, but drink at least more that what you are drinking now. It will help you with your digestion and skin and will keep you from overeating. Try drinking one glass of water before every meal too
3) Replace one meal of meat with a vegetarian meal. Actually is recommended to eat fish 2 times a week, as it is good for your brain, and is better than meat. However, if your budget doesn't allow it , replace meat with pasta and vegetables.
4) Eat fish at least once or twice a week. Again, fish is low in fat, and come kind (like salmon) high in omega 3 fatty acids.
5) Do exercise. Is not enough just watching what you eat. If you want to look fit, there is no replacement for exercise. It will tone up your muscles and accelerate your metabolism, which in turn will burn more body fat.
If you don't like going to the gym then find a friend and play something; racquetball, tennis, (not chess!) and have fun and lose weight at the same time.
6) Only have healthy snacks. First of all, you should not have fattening snacks at home, don't throw away food, but do not buy more pastry, ice cream, etc. Instead buy protein bars, fruit, low-fat yogurt, air-popped popcorn, and used them when you feel the urge to eat something.
